Employees of the Federal Medical Centre Katsina  on Monday  commenced a three-day peaceful protest over the  nonpayment of  their April and May 2018  salaries by the  Federal Government.

The chairman of the hospital’s chapter of the  Joint Health Workers Union, Mr  Shamsudeen Lawal,  told  reporters  that the protest was nationwide.

The workers  chanted solidarity  songs on the hospital premises  as they criticised the  Federal Government  for not paying them.

They  carried placards with inscriptions such as “Respect signed agreement”, “Minister should stop sabotaging Mr President” and “Mr President, come to the aid of FMC workers.”

Lawal  said other demands included  the non-implementation of the  salary adjustments  promised them by the FG.

He  said, “The protest you have witnessed today (Monday) will continue on Tuesday and Wednesday. The protest is nationwide  and it was directed at the Federal Government. The national leadership of our various unions will determine our next line of action after Wednesday.”
