Lagos – The Aare Onakakanfo, Gani Adams-led Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) has announced the commencement of the 2019 edition of the annual Eledumare Festival.

The 21-day event is organised by the Oodua Peoples’ Congress (OPC), through the Olokun Festival Foundation (OFF).

Speaking on Thursday at a special prayer session to herald the festival in Agege, Lagos, Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams, explained that the best that could happen to every right-thinking person is to celebrate and give glory to the Almighty God.

According to him, Eledumare festival is significant because it is only God that has the power to fulfil all purposes in life.

“God’s plan for the future of our group is unique. That is why we are able to sustain all the activities of the group without looking back. As a formidable organisation, we look forward to a great future, by staking our resources and time for the Yoruba race.

“For the past six years, we have devoted our time and material resources to celebrate Eledumare Festival and other festivals across the southwest. For a very long time now, we have been promoting our cultural identities without getting allocations or support from anybody. I know for sure, that we shall be rewarded and I have a feeling that the reward will come sooner than it is expected,” he said.

Aare Adams, however, urged all members to remain focused and embrace all the good qualities that can advance the cause of the group, insisting that discipline is key to the progress of the group.

Ambassador Muyiwa Oshinaike, Director of media, Olokun Festival Foundation (OFF), while unveiling activities for the Eledumare, explained that the intention is to acknowledge God.

“Eledumare Festival is an annual event specifically meant and used to promote Yoruba cultural values and traditions. This year edition is no exception. For 21 days, there will be a series of activities running across Lagos state and the grand finale will come up on Tuesday, March 26,” he said.

Oshinaike, also stressed that the group has metamorphosised into a formidable group with structure across the country.

“The only motivating factor for us is that we have a leader, the Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Abiodun Ige Adams, who at all times, keeps us going.

“As far as we are concerned, there is no going back. We are focused and by the Special grace of God, we shall continue to grow from strength to strength,” he explained.

Other events lined up according to him, include; taekwondo competition, table tennis, ‘Ayo Olopon’, and harvest of praise, among others.

The Olokun Festival Foundation actively sponsors and takes part in the following festivals across Yoruba land: Eledumare Festival in Ijora Lagos, Ajagunmale Festival in Lekki Lagos, Osun Osogbo, Olokun Festival in Badagry Lagos, Oya Festival in Kwara State, Oke Ibadan Festival in Oyo State and Oodua Festival in Ile-Ife.
