Legion of Mary celebrates Acies
The Acies is a ceremony celebrated by the Legion of Mary a group of Marian devotees in the Catholic Church. The group started in Ireland in the year 1921 and have spread to many countries of the world because of the unique nature of their work in the church which includes but not limited to: reaching out to people through weekly house to house visitation, hospital visitation, prison visitation etc . Acies means, "an army in battle array". It is a time when legionaries renew their vows and commitments to Jesus through the Blessed Virgin Mary. It is done once a year, a week before or after the 25th of March. It is a very compulsory activity for legionaries all over the world and as it is written in the Legion handbook, "anyone who can attend but fail to do so is not an asset to the Legion".
