The passport will go for the sum of N70,000 and has over 20 features, while the other one with a five-year validity will be going for half the first price, N35,000, The Punch reports.

The public relations officer for NIS, Sunday James, revealed details about the new Nigerian passport on Monday, January 21. Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the federal government assured that it would soon begin the total production of e-passports in Nigeria. The minister of interior, Abdulrahman Dambazau, said the ministry is working towards domestication of e-passport production within the country.

Speaking at a ministerial press briefing by the ministry on Thursday, January 17, Dambazau said the move to domesticate the production of the passport is to ensure that every material need for the passport is produced in Nigeria as it adds to the generation of revenue within the country. The minister revealed this at a media briefing tagged "The Journey so Far", where he said the domestication of the production of the e-passport is an off-shoot of the ministry's policies on public, private partnership and the promotion of the ease of doing business in Nigeria.
