Physician Recommends Early Treatment Of Rhinitis To Avoid Complications
Dr Omoye Osawende, a Benin-based medical expert, has advised Nigerians against leaving rhinitis untreated as it could lead to greater complications.
Osawende, who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Benin, on Saturday, defined rhinitis as the “Irritation and swelling of the mucous membrane in the nose.
She said that when treated early, complications that could lead to serious health issues would be avoided.
According to the physician, though non-allergic rhinitis affects both children and adults, it is, however, common after the age of 20.
“Triggers of non-allergic rhinitis symptoms vary and can include certain odours or irritants in the air, changes in weather, some medications, certain foods, and chronic health conditions.
“If you have non-allergic rhinitis, you probably have symptoms that come and go annually; or you may have constant symptoms that last only a short time,” she said.
The doctor identified the symptoms of nonallergic rhinitis to include; Stuffy nose, runny nose, sneezing, mucus (phlegm) in the throat and cough.
Osawende stated that the exact cause of non-allergic rhinitis remained unknown, but advised anyone with such symptoms to see a medical doctor immediately
