Piqué is starting to plan his future after his football career. At 31, the defender plans to retire in the middle of 2020, after the next season, and aims to take over the presidency of Barcelona, an old personal dream, according to the Sports World .

The Spanish newspaper also indicates that the Catalan team’s multi-season athlete feels prepared to make the transition from the pitch to the office and would use the year between his retirement and the next election of the Camp Nou team to prepare his candidacy.

Josep Maria Bartomeu, current president of Barcelona, has a mandate until June 2021 and months before the election will be held to determine who will be his successor.

Among Piqué’s plans is the desire to have the club’s historical names in team management. Xavi and Iniesta, Barça’s golden era midfielders pair, would be the coveted names for the technical command. The former defender and captain Puyol would also be among the names of the board.

In his hometown team, Gerard Piqué won three Champions League titles, seven Spanish Championships, six Spanish Cups, six Spanish Super Cups and three Club World Cups. He also won the World Cup, the Eurocup, a Champions League with Manchester United and an English Campenato.
