7 killed in Anambra tanker explosion
The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed seven people killed in a petrol tanker explosion Saturday night in Amawbia, near Awka.
The spokesman of the command Haruna Mohammed, said yesterday that: “Out of the seven corpses, three were deposited at Amaku General Hospital Morgue, two at Regina Caeli Hospital and another two at Piston Hospital Morgue for postmortem examination.”
The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety
Commission, Andrew Kumapayi, blamed the incident on the tanker’s driver’s carelessness.
He said two persons died, while six others sustained injuries, with eight vehicles burnt beyond recognition.
“The driver did not stop when the tank fell, the incident happened in front of the Fire Service and fire fighters were still making efforts to put out the fire,” he said.
